The largest race in Montgomery
County, Maryland and the signature charity event
of Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rotary and the YMCA Bethesda-Chevy
Chase, the annual Turkey Chase will benefit charities
supported by the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rotary Club,
including YMCA Bethesda-Chevy Chase scholarships,
financial assistance and YMCA Youth and Family
Services.

The 2-mile walk/run and
the USATF-certified 10 kilometer race are both
open to the whole family. The Tot Trot 50 meter
race is a great addition to our family friendly
event. The Tot Trot is designed for all ages,
whether your little one is just beginning to walk
or loves to run and play. The race will begin
promptly at 9:45 am in the YMCA parking lot, with
age group wave starts until everyone finishes.
Each participant will receive a shirt and a special
prize and memories that will last a lifetime.

Timing
& Scoring
The 10K race will be scored
with the IPICO Tag System. You must pick up the
Tag at packet pick up or on race day at packet
pick up and attach it to your shoe in order to
be scored in the race and be eligible for awards.
You will return the Tag immediately after finishing.
Open awards will be determined by gun time, age
group awards by net time.

Each participant receives
either a high-quality 100% long sleeve cotton
commemorative t-shirt as part of their entry fee
OR for an extra $15 premium receives a high quality
Brooks Podium T-shirt that allows moisture to
quickly wick away from your body. Add $15 to your
entry fee, check your shirt size on the application,
and get a shirt that will help you exercise through
the winter. (The premium shirt is only available
as a unisex shirt in adult sizes.). Shirts will
be available in Adult sizes Med, Large, X-Large,
and XX-Large. Also available in Youth Large only.
No color choice available.
Wave
Start (IPICO Tag
System)
Because the Tag records
both when you cross the starting line and when
you cross the finish line the 10 kilometer run
will have what is called a wave start. In a wave
start runners are sent off in groups based on
their ability. This enables more runners to have
an optimal running experience. By separating the
very large expected group of runners into pace
groups, and starting the groups on even minutes,
it is expected that more runners will be able
to run at their pace right from the start. Runners
will self-seed themselves into groups at the start

The 2 mile
walk/run and USATF Certified 10K/wheelchair/run
includes courses that are open to the whole family.
Both races start at 9401 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda,
Maryland and wind through Maplewood Community. The
10K/wheelchair race will take runners through Bethesda
and will return along Old Georgetown Road. ROLLERBLADES
AND PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON COURSE. STROLLERS MUST
ASSEMBLE AT THE 2-MILE WALKER START (STROLLERS ARE
NOT ALLOWED ON THE 10K FOR SAFETY REASONS)
10K
PARTICIPANTS MUST BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN A 14-MINUTES-PER-MILE
PACE. PARTICIPANTS TRAVELING SLOWER WILL BE DIRECTED
ONTO THE SIDEWALK AND FROM THAT MOMENT MUST REMAIN
ON THE SIDEWALK AND FOLLOW NORMAL PEDESTRIAN RULES
AT THE CROSS STREETS. (The reason for the minimum-pace
standard is so that normal traffic flow can resume
in a timely manner.)
Water
Water will be provided at
the 3 mile, 5 mile, and finish of the race.
Headphones and Ipods
The Turkey Chase follows
USA Track and Field rules regarding the use of headphones
and other equipment on the Turkey Chase 10K course.
Rule
144, Section 3B states: The visible possession
or use by athletes of video or audio cassette recorders
or players, TV's, CD or DVD players, radio transmitters
or receivers, mobile phones, computers or any similar
devices in the competition area shall not be permitted.
Packet
Pick-Up
Pre-registered participants
can pick up their race bibs and t-shirts and information
at Chevy
Chase Cars, 7725 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, Maryland
on Monday and Tuesday, November 24 and 25, from
10am to 8pm, and Wednesday - November 26 from 10am
to 5pm. Those not registered by Monday may register
for for the race at Chevy Chase Cars and pick up
your bib, t-shirt, and information at that time.
Race day packet pick up begins at 6:30 am at YMCA Bethesda-Chevy Chase,
9401 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda, MD 20814. Another option is to give your race registration confirmation to another person.
They would then be allowed to pick up your shirt on your behalf at Chevy Chase Cars.
Timing Chip
The orange tag that is taped
to the bib is the IPICO RFID timing chip. Please
take it off and tie it to your shoe lace - snugly.
It will record your time when you cross the start
mat and when you cross the finish mat.
Race
Day Registration
Registration will be taken on race day at the YMCA Bethesda-Chevy Chase,
9401 Old Georgetown Road from 6:00 am-8:00am. Fees for the 50 Meter Tot Trot will be $15.00,
2 Mile walk/run will be $20.00 and fees for the 10K will be $40.00. T-shirts (or size preference)
are not guaranteed for race day registrants.
Participants
will receive

bag check-in, pre race warm-up, and refreshments. Each participant receives either

There will be a bag check
located on the main field under a tent. It will
open at 7:00 am and is scheduled to close around
9:30 am (although we will wait until the last bag
is gone).

Results will be posted on
site as quickly as they are available and will be
posted on www.turkeychase.com
later on Thanksgiving Day. You can also go to www.mcrrc.org
and www.runwashington.com
for results.
Awards
10K RACE ONLY
- Awards will be presented to top ten male and female
overall finishers on race day. Awards will be mailed
to first and second place male and female in each
age category (refer to chart below). All open awards
are based on gun time. All age group awards are
based on net time. No duplicate awards. (If you
win an open award you cannot also win an age group
award.)
